PDF Viewer: Auto-Extract Room Data from 2D Floorplans

Most PDF viewers either focus on just looking at plans or on drawing on top of them. Our viewer is built to automatically extract information from 2D floorplan PDFs, and to keep working with it afterward.

Steps

  1. Load a floorplan PDF through a process

A 2D floorplan PDF enters the workflow, as one step in a process you already run.

  2. Auto-extract room tags into the database

Room tags are automatically extracted from the plan and created as rooms in the database, structured according to the open pragmaticBIM schema.

  3. Enrich the room information

Add area, use, occupancy, or any other detail to each room, whatever the next process step needs.

FAQ

Why not just use BlueBeam or Adobe PDF?

BlueBeam and Adobe PDF are built for marking up and viewing plans, not for turning them into data. Our viewer reads the room tags on a floorplan PDF and creates structured rooms automatically, ready to enrich and reuse.

What is the open pragmaticBIM schema?

pragmaticBIM is {yourcompany}os's open data schema for BIM elements, published on GitHub, so the rooms extracted from your plan stay portable and inspectable, not locked into a proprietary format.

What if the auto-extraction misses a room?

Add or correct rooms manually in the same view, no separate tool or re-import required.

How do I enrich the extracted rooms?

Add area, use, occupancy, or any other attribute your process needs directly on each room, right after extraction.
